Tim Snyder
one of my heroes
I hope you all know Tim Snyder. And if you don’t, you should. His speech on No Kings Day is on the link below.
He is deeply interested in Ukraine, as am I, because, as I have written before, I have a zoom friend there, Slava
He moved to Toronto after the 2024 election. Anticipating the disaster, and maybe figuring he had a target on his back.
I wish that Trump could make up his fricking mind about Ukraine once and for all, but that is probably too much to hope for. He is saying some positive things, and I hope he will be doing some as well. Unfreeze the Russian assets and put them into Tomahawk missiles.
If Tim is one of my heroes, Zelensky is certainly another one. Early in my conversations with Slava she started to talk about corruption in the government, which I thought he’d been elected to clean up, and I presumed to say, Oh, come on, he’s running a war. Give him a break. We don’t talk about him now. I will try to remember to ask her when we talk next week.
My friend Jane and I were talking yesterday and she asked if she could be a Christian and wish that Stephen Miller was dead. I said, well, I’m a priest and I would be glad if someone would
assassinate Trump. She said that her late husband, in his upper 80’s, would sit out with their equally elderly next door neighbor and discuss plans to do just that. Her Roger knew his way around the White House and the neighbor said he would be willing to die trying to accomplish their 2-man coup.
Trump is clearly is in poor health mentally as well as physically. And yet he wants/plans to continue as president regardless of the illegality of that plan. And oh, our spineless house of Representatives, who don’t represent us at all at this point. I’m sure they are too chicken to be holding town meetings at home.
Well, I give thanks and praise for Pritzker and Newsom, no matter how irritating and full of themselves they may be. They are standing up and speaking out and doing the work.
